By the Numbers. More than 500 communities across the U.S. and territories host major installations and missions, and within these communities, two-thirds of military families and almost all civilian employees live off base.
Delivering TA to Defense Communities. Converge Strategies partnered with the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) to identify opportunities to expand or modify Department of Energy (DOE) technical assistance (TA) programs to better support the unique energy needs of defense communities.
Bottom Line. National laboratory expertise is underutilized. Defense communities often lack familiarity with lab offerings, leaving an untapped opportunity for the national laboratories to supply their technical expertise and resources to advance ongoing DoW project concepts.
How We Got Here. Attendees across 25 defense communities gathered to discuss how DOE TA programs could better support their energy needs, identifying priorities such as backup power, risk analyses, load shedding, and evaluating generation.
The Path Ahead. The project team will engage active state and local defense community organizations in three states to identify replicable opportunities for lab engagement and support and facilitate conversations between NLR and OLDCC to identify touchpoints for DoW-DOE coordination across project lifecycles.
